In this studio I gained experience with design competitions. In 8 weeks we produced a research book with all kind of background information and relevant facts about urban development in Hanoi; history, socio-economical data, economy, and contemporary living in Hanoi. In the following 10 weeks 4 designs were produced for clusters or satellite cities.

The brief of the competition asked for high density (100,000 people/km2) new town development far beyond the edge of the current urban area of Hanoi, which would result in a traffic nightmare of commuters. In stead, a design was made for a proposed high speed rail hub with surrounding districts that could made optimal use of the existing infrastructure of the city.
